After the King's Canyon backpack, we spent one day in San Francisco (Labor Day 2009). The Bay Bridge from Oakland was closed, so we used BART to get from Oakland to San Francisco. This turned out to be the best way to go. Having a car in San Francisco would have been a major hassle. It was very easy to figure out the public transit system. An all day pass was only $11! We rode just about every type of transport: cable car, street car, electric bus, and subway.
After a full day of
sightseeing, we enjoyed a seafood dinner with outdoor seating. It was a
great day and quite an enjoyable contrast to the hard work of backpacking.
