337 Project

From the website:  A derelict, grey stucco two-story building at 337 South 400 East in Salt Lake city (an example of the worst late 70's remodel) was set to be demolished.  This narrow, labyrinthine collection of rooms, hallways, stairs and closets scheduled for demolition was turned over for use as a 20,000 square foot canvas.  The site hosted the largest single collaboration of Salt Lake area contemporary artists ever to be gathered and directed toward a community installation: a high-profile art project entitled 337.

Over 114 artists contributed to the project.  Both the interior and exterior of the building was covered with artists' creativity.  There were mixed media and even a sound art exhibit.  Some entire rooms were themes;  others had walls of different artwork.  Even ceilings were decorated (and one person's vehicle in the parking lot).  The artists had 68 days to complete their work.  I read that the artists claimed they felt more freedom to be creative knowing their work was not permanent.  The building was only open for public viewing for six days.  The "project" was very interesting and inspiring;  I'm thrilled I was able to view 337 during the short time it existed.

This is a mere sampling of abundance of artwork.....
